My point of view is that china currently imitates rather than innovate simply because it is more profitable to do so. Why spend countless RMB developing new products that are not assured of success, when you can be making big bucks now just copying what is know to already work in more developed countries. As an enterprise executive, the choice is obvious. When china's level of development and products reach equilibrium with the west, then we'll see true innovation. I think we're already seeing that in some industries such as green tech and certain segments of electronics.
